I received a call today from a prior student who's brother has schizophrenia. Sadly enough this patient was not given the proper dosage by a resident in a Pilsen Health Center run by the city. The patient was given new medication without any label on the meds. The patient was in an automobile accident. Now the patient is being charged for murder due to his accident. Sadly, he was in the Maywood Park Police station held without medication for 3 days. He was suicidal, and without meds. Sounds to me like this may be a malpractice. Finally, the patient was released and taken to Rush Hospital for an evaluation. He was given very high dosages of medication due to his condition. Cases like these are dealt with in our hospitals in the emergency rooms. Families are force to bring in their family members because of lack of mental health care in Pilsen.
If, this patient had been treated, he would have been stabilized and probably not been in an accident. Because of that he has created suffering and pain for the family who now does not have a family member. Also, for his family that now has to deal with running around seeking legal aid, and trying to find a Psychiatrist that will evaluate him.
